Inaugural USTC ‘Kezhi Cup’ Mind Sports Game Concludes Successfully

On December 23rd, the first “Kezhi Cup” Mind Sports Game was held in the high-tech campus of the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) by the School of Cyber Science and Technology.

The “Kezhi Cup” is open to all USTCers, including teachers and staff members, with the aim of expanding the mindset, enriching the university life, and achieving overall development of all participants. Four games are included: Xiang qi (Chinese chess), Gomoku, Rubik’s Cube, and the Guandan Card.

When the game of the Chinese chess was on, all the participants immersed themselves in deliberation and the field seemed to be incredibly muted. The contestants offered the spectators a wonderful game with their exquisite chess skills. After several exciting rounds, the following four players ranked the top 4 by the total scores: ZHANG Yiming, LI Zheyu, YING Shuchang, YANG Jianyu, and ZHANG Zunmin (tied for fourth place).

Gomoku is a kind of puzzle activity that embraces hidden mysteries, revealing the unique strategies and overall tactical layout of players. After a fierce competition, ZHONG Zichen, LI Zhenhao, FENG Yuanyuan and WANG Xingyu came out on top.

The Rubik’s Cube game presents an intense competition. The players were quick and agile, grabbing every second to distinguish themselves, which made spectators hold themselves. Through five rounds of time trials, the top four in the Rubik’s Cube project were KANG Zechao, WANG Yihuan, JIANG Tao and LV Haoche.

The Guandan Card is a popular poker game in which members in one team have to collaborate with each other to finish their cards first, which not only challenges the individual ability but also requires the teamwork. At last, four groups, CHEN Lin and LU Tianxiang, LI Xue and TANG Qi, RUAN Huanyu and LIU Xiang, ZHANG Yuhang and WANG Long, excelled others to be the winners.

The “Kezhi Cup” received positive response from staff and students of USTC since its preparation and was well attended. With the joint efforts of the staff and the participating teachers and students, the event came to a complete success.

The “Kezhi Cup” Mind Sports Game demonstrated the competitive spirit of USTCers, encouraging participants to be passionate, youthful, and tenacious in the future.
