Inauguration of weeklong STUTI programme held
Aligarh : Inauguration of a weeklong function was held on 6th May at the Physics department, AMU under the “Synergistic Training program Utilizing the Scientific and Technological Infrastructure (STUTI)” supported by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India.. STUTI scheme envisions a hands-on training program and sensitization of the state-of-the-art equipment as well as towards sharing while ensuring transparent access of S&T facilities. As part of the “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” celebrations, the training programme, scientific lectures, demonstrations and hands on training sessions are to be organized for the benefit of the faculty members/research scholars/scientists between 6th and 12th May.
While inaugurating the function, the Chief Guest Dr SK Varshney (Advisor & Head, International Cooperation Division, DST), spoke about: “Science is useful for the betterment of the Society” and explained how effective tools may be developed for the scientific development of the country. He also informed that the government of India is making all efforts and encouraging youngsters to build startups which may benefit the society at large.
He also released the brochure of the week-long programme; Dr Varshney shared the government of India’s initiatives to make the maximum utilization of equipment available. In his keynote lecture entitled “Art of Effective Project Writing” he highlighted the tips for effective project writing to grab the funds from the funding agencies.
The guest of honour Prof M Mohsin Khan (Finance Officer, AMU) narrated the importance of physics in the field of science and society at large and stressed on difficulty in raising the funds from various agencies for the educational institutions for scientific projects.
The guest of honour, Prof M Ashraf (Dean, Faculty of Science), discussed the need of such training programmes for the benefit of young researchers. He asked the participants to make use such training for their research work.
Prof BP Singh (Chairperson, Physics Department) in his welcome address highlighted the importance training programmes and shared the details of the STUTI programme
In another session, Prof Singh delivered a talk on the topic of “Interaction of Nuclear Radiation with Matter”, where he highlighted how the radiations may be identified and their properties may be determined not only for basic research but also for medical applications.
Dr M Wasi Khan introduced the STUTI initiative of DST to the audience and students and discussed its main features and components. Dr Jai Prakash presented a vote of thanks and convened all the activities undertaken under STUTI in the department.
The last session was devoted to “Hands on training activities” through familiarization of Scientific Equipment and demonstration as per the directions of the government of India.
