India Child Protection Fund’s (ICPF) training to Maharashtra Cyber Department enables them to successfully increase online crime investigation
Mumbai: India Child Protection Fund’s (ICPF) training to Maharashtra Cyber Department has enabled the state cyber police to successfully investigate cyber and digital crimes and register 43 new cases that have led to the arrest of 23 people involved in POCSO-related and other types of cyber-crimes. According to the state cyber department, the training has also helped the officials in successfully investigating 271 cases registered in the past that have led to the arrest of 150 people. ICPF is supported by Kailash Satyarthi Children’s Foundation-US, founded by Nobel Peace Laureate Kailash Satyarthi. ICPF works with the objective of bringing to the fore, the escalating issue of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and its rising availability in India.
Last year in November, ICPF signed an agreement with the state Cyber Department to impart training to more than 300 police officials with intricate knowledge of cyber and digital investigation with available legal provisions. The training was essential for the police department to learn and gain an understanding of the practical application of the knowledge to counter the dynamic landscape and challenges posed by sophisticated cyber criminals. The training also emphasized on the significance of utilizing cyber forensics in various types of crimes to nab the criminals.
The training program was spread over a week for each of the 10 batches to enable the police officials to understand and investigate cyber-crimes related to children including child pornography.
Speaking on the success of the Maharashtra Cyber Department following the training of its personnel, Shri OP Singh, CEO of ICPF says, “The challenges of technology need to be tackled with state-of-the-art training for law enforcement. Our endeavour is to provide practical experiential training so that the officers in the field are able to act swiftly and effectively.”
Besides Maharashtra, ICPF has also signed agreements with the state police departments of Kerala and Telangana to train the cyber police in both states, while in Uttar Pradesh an agreement has been signed with the Social Welfare Department to train master trainers from around 105 schools.
