All India music event, Sur, starts at Aligarh Muslim University

Aligarh: ‘Sur’, an all India solo singing competition and a musical bonanza for the lovers of Hindustani, folk and traditional music of India, which provides a platform to the amateur and blooming singers from class XI to PhD, began yesterday evening at the Kennedy Auditorium in a passion-charged atmosphere with a high spirited performance by Sameer Alvi (Sarangi), Azeem Alvi (Sitar) and Saptak Sharma (Percussion). The musical feat is organized by the University Hindustani and Folk and Traditional Music Clubs of the Cultural Education Centre, Aligarh Muslim University.

The University Hindustani Music Club Secretary, Sarim Ashrafi and Folk & Traditional Music Club Secretary, Danish Nazir said that the competition has been divided into two groups ?Internal and External with more than 100 participants who registered themselves for the annual event.

Momin Ali, Faizan Illahi, Haider Saifullah, Gulrez Hussain Zaidi, Alqamar Ashrafi, Yusra, Ayesha, Alisha, Shoeb, Azeem, Asif, Huzaif, Shaan and Bazil worked hard in organizing the music festival while Prof F S Sherani (Coordinator, Cultural Education Centre), Prof Mohd Yusuf Bin Khalid (President, Hindustani Music Club) and Mr Muzammil Bhavani (Program Director, CEC) provided guidance to the students.
