Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bodh Gaya marked World Mental Health Day on October 10th, 2023

In a resolute commitment to the promotion of mental health awareness, the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bodh Gaya marked World Mental Health Day on October 10th, 2023, with an event that left a profound impact.

At the heart of this initiative was ‘Samatvam,’ the Mindfulness Centre of IIM Bodh Gaya, which hosted this extraordinary event on the institute’s campus. The event was distinguished by the presence of Dr. Nidhi Mishra, the Chairperson of Samatvam, along with Dr. Remya Lathabhavan, Dr. Prabhu G and Dr. Vittal Rangan as the faculty mentors of Samatvam.

This celebration featured a range of insightful and interactive activities aimed at enhancing mindfulness and emphasising the importance of mental well-being not only within the academic community but throughout society.

The event’s theme was in perfect alignment with the WHO’s theme which emphasises that “Mental health is a universal human right.” This resonance beautifully embodies the vision and guidance of Dr. Vinita S. Sahay, the Director of IIM Bodh Gaya. She advocates for the cultivation of ‘mindful’ leaders within the corporate world by fostering a well-rounded educational environment that merges academics with extracurricular activities, all while instilling core values such as ‘mindfulness’. This approach encapsulates her vision to nurture a pool of effective leaders capable of making a positive impact on society.

To mark World Mental Health Day, IIM Bodh Gaya organized an array of events and initiatives that promoted awareness, understanding, and dialogue.

On October 8th, 2023, IIM-BG conducted an Art Competition open to all students. The competition allowed students to showcase their artistic talents while highlighting the idea that mental health is indeed a human right. This preliminary event set the stage for the main celebration scheduled for World Mental Health Day.

The main event was conducted on October 10th, 2023, beginning with an invigorating Zumba dance session, accompanied by rhythmic music, setting a lively tone for the day’s activities. The evening’s highlight was the engaging and informative sessions delivered by two distinguished speakers.

Ms. Malasa Gujjar M, an experienced psychologist, shared valuable insights during the event. With a Master’s Degree in Psychology, specializing in Clinical and Counseling Psychology, she has extensive experience in assisting individuals of all ages in managing various mental health challenges.

Ms. Gujjar is not only a skilled practitioner but a passionate advocate for mental health awareness and well-being. During her session, she encouraged students to analyze their strengths and weaknesses, emphasizing the importance of self-reflection, leaving a lasting impact.

Mr. Shishir Arya, an accomplished individual with an educational background from IIT Roorkee and IIM Ahmedabad, is renowned as the founder of Know Thyself Happy Co. and co-founder of Imagine Mindfulness.

During his insightful talk, Mr. Arya delved into essential aspects of managing stress, fostering mindfulness, enhancing attention, and effectively handling emotions. Despite not being physically present, his engaging video conferencing left a lasting impact, highlighting the importance of mental health awareness and self-care.

Promoting Interaction and Fun:

The event also featured engaging activities such as dumb charades, two truths and a myth, dancing statues, blindfolded pictionary, and more, ensuring a day filled with both learning and enjoyment.
