Indian parents loosen purse strings during exam season; spend INR 20 million on online learning and exam prep between Jan-March, 2023: Instamojo Ed2C Report

Bengaluru : With the exam fever coming to an end, Instamojo, India’s largest full-stack digital solutions provider for D2C businesses, launched its Ed2C report to uncover consumer trends around online learning and exam preparation. With over 25% of the transactions made on the platform in Q4, 2023 were contributed to by the education sector, with online reshaping tuition and exam preparations and championing change that is here to stay.


This report is an analysis of all sales and demand being created by 1500 Ed2C brands that use Instamojo to create their websites. Some of the key insights are as follows:


  • Parents open pockets for exam seasons. They spent INR 15 million on online learning courses and around INR 5 million for exam preparation courses between January and March

  • Tier I and Tier II cities were the highest takers of online courses contributing more than 89% to the overall transaction value for the education sector

  • Pune, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Hyderabad were the top 5 cities in terms of transaction value. These 5 cities contributed more than 28% to the overall transactions for the sector

  • Merchants who signed up during the pandemic were the most successful, clocking in a total sales INR 12mn between January and March


With exam results being announced, spending on Job Consulting and Resume Writing is set to rise. Between January and March, this sector clocked in a total sales of INR 1.2 lakh which is estimated to grow by 2x in the current quarter.
