Indian students bag 244 awards in Cambridge exams 2018/19 | Mumbai leads with 37 ‘Top in World’ awards

Mumbai: Cambridge International has conferred an impressive 244 Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards on Indian students. The global awards celebrate the highest performing students from over 40 countries in qualifications recognised around the world by leading universities and employers. Every year nearly a million students worldwide study courses organised by Cambridge International, which has been providing international exams for more than 160 years.

In total, 207 students in India have received the prestigious Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards for their exceptional performance in Cambridge exams in 2018-2019. The awards recognise success in four categories – ‘Top in the World’, ‘Top in the Country’, High Achievement Award’ and ‘Best Across’. The number of award winners in India is much higher this year, compared to 173 winners in 2017-2018.

In total, 86 students across India have won ‘Top in the World’ awards, meaning that they achieved the highest mark in the world in a particular subject. Thirty-seven of these “Top in the World” awards have been bagged by Mumbai students. The ‘Top in the World’ winner numbers from Mumbai are higher than any other city in India. In total, 63 students from Mumbai have won awards in all four categories.

Satyajit Sarkar, Acting Regional Director, South Asia at Cambridge International said, “We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all the award winners for their endless efforts. We are thrilled by their exceptional performance. As well as excelling in STEM subjects, the students have also performed extremely well in social sciences and humanities subjects. A Cambridge education is about supporting schools to help students become confident, responsible, innovative, reflective and engaged, and to fulfil their potential. We would also like to thank all the teachers and parents who supported and guided the learners through their studies and helped them achieve such success.”

Ms Suchita Malakar, Principal – Podar International School, Powai said, “We are proud of our student, Krithika Mittal, for achieving an Outstanding Cambridge Learner Award. Her commitment and dedication have brought her these accolades. Our outstanding results in the Cambridge IGCSE exams have proved that perseverance, meticulous planning and hard work by the learner can bring out the best in them. It has been an amazing journey with Cambridge International throughout. The curriculum strongly focuses on the four C’s of the 21st-century skills: critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication. Each learner exhibits strong traits of creativity and the ability to ‘think out of the box’. The structured course is well suited for a wide range of learners, helping each learner achieve their potential and carve a niche for themselves in the global world.”

The top performing students will receive their Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards at a special ceremony early next year.
