Indo-German Workshop on Mobility Design at IIT Roorkee

 

Roorkee: Department of Architecture and Planning, India Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee hosted an Indo German Workshop on ‘Mobility Design’ organized by Design Innovation Center on 1st and 2nd March.

The theme of the workshop was “Campus Mobility”. Prof. Peter Eckart, a well-known Designer and Vice President of University of Art and Design, Offenbach, Germany and Mr. Julian Schwarze, a researcher in the same University in the area of Mobility Design, were the key design mentors for this workshop.

Prof. Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi, Director of IIT Roorkee, inaugurated the workshop as the Chief Guest. The other eminent dignitaries who graced the occasion were Prof. Manoranjan Parida, Dean SRIC, Prof. Apurbba Kumar Sharma, Coordinator, Design Innovation Center, Prof. P. S. Chani, Head, Department of Architecture and Planning and Prof. Gaurav Raheja, Workshop Coordinator and Co-coordinator, Design Innovation Center. Prof. Inderdeep Singh, Coordinator – Tinkering Lab and Coordinator, Design Innovation Center, Prof. Sanjeev Manhas, Co-coordinator, Design Innovation Center and few other faculty members of the Institute were also present during the function.

Over 40 participants including students as well as faculty members from different disciplines attended the workshop. Six participants from the University of Art and Design, Offenbach, Germany and 34 participants from different states of India attended the two-day unique workshop in which a live problem of the IIT Roorkee campus was addressed.

While welcoming the international guests and workshop participants, Prof. Chaturvedi said- “This workshop is an effort to highlight the role of design thinking in mobility experiences of campus planning. I wish this workshop a great success and believe that the workshop will provide a good learning experience to the participants.”

The workshop was conceived to bring together an international experience of both knowledge and cultures of design thinking on the theme of campus mobility. Five key sessions were organized from Design Process to Design visualization through design research. The workshop brought a multi-dimensional mix of participants together from different institutions of India along with participants from host institute, IIT Roorkee and the German University. Prof. Peter and his team from Offenbach University, Germany also shared their valuable feedbacks on Mobility perspectives and experiences in India and in the IIT Roorkee campus. They cherished moments of learning and sharing in an Indian institutional culture and look forward for continued collaborations in the future. Prof. Apurbba Kumar Sharma, Prof. Peter Eckart and Prof. Gaurav Raheja presented the certificates to the participants. The participants were visibly delighted by the unique overall experience of the intense workshop.
