INDUCTION OF WOMEN CADETS IN NDA FIRST STEP TOWARDS GENDER PARITY IN ARMED FORCES -GEN. M.M.Naravane,

New Delhi : Induction of women cadets in the National Defence Academy (NDA)  is the first step towards gender equality in the armed forces.

“This is the first step towards gender equality as women will be trained at NDA and later inducted in the armed forces. Women have already proved their mettle in various spheres as well as in armed forces including performing  combat roles such as fighter pilots, paratroopers, submarines. They will continue to do so in future, too,

” said General Naravane. The Army chief while speaking at an event “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”, celebrating women organised by FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO) Women business wing  of FICCI here today.

“Indian armed forces lead the example of breaking the ground  and making them the agents of change and among the tri-services Indian army believes in gender parity and is currently providing equal opportunity .Women army officers have been serving the forces for long . Recently the Army was the first to induct women in the military police “ said General Naravane.

“Apart from induction of women cadets in NDA army will soon be inducting all women aviation combat batch.   We welcome women  with the same sense of fair play and professionalism as Indian armed forces are known world over,” General Naravane said.

“Gen Vipin Rawat’s role for empowering women cannot be forgotten  and today is his birthday. He always encouraged women and their role in all spheres “ said General Navarane .

“Our spouses have a strong leadership role in our lives. Most of them are gifted with various talents and face challenges in day to day life. We acknowledge their supporting role ” he said.

“FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO) welcomes recent steps taken by Indian defense forces for inclusion of girl cadets in various defence training and education institutes including National Defense Academy (NDA) and Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC) in Dehradun. This is a major step towards gender parity and will lead to big change and women will create history in the armed forces.”  said Ms Ujjwala Singhania , President, FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO) while speaking on the occasion.

“FLO also welcomes recent government move to promote the participation of private sector in indigenous defence productions and 100 per cent FDI along with induction of  first female fighters in Indian Airforce paving the way for women to be given more combat roles moving towards gender parity in World’s biggest force” said Ms Ujjwala Singhania , President, FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO) while speaking on the occasion.

“ Women entrepreneurs and corporate houses  can play a greater role in defence production, research and support and take advantage of new government policy of greater private participation “she added.

During the event women officers from the tri-services including Army, Navy and Airforce were honoured .
