Induction programme held at the Department of Geography
ALIGARH : The Department of Geography, Aligarh Muslim University, organized an induction programme for the newly admitted students.
The chief guest Prof. Sartaj Tabassum, Dean, Faculty of Science, urged the students to become beacons of knowledge and humanity and carryon Sir Syed’s vision of education and leadership.
The Chairman of the department, Prof. Nizamuddin Khan emphasized the importance of cooperation among students and urged them to embrace AMU’s culture and tradition.
Prof. Shahab Fazal said that this era is marked by competitions and mere educational qualification is not enough, rather learning various personality development related skills is essential to build a robust career in life.
Prof. Naushad Ahmad urged the students to prepare for civil services and other competitive exams, and keep attempting to achieve success in such examinations. He also urged them to look for higher educational opportunities abroad.
Earlier, welcoming the guests, Dr. Saleha Jamal briefly discussed the objectives of the induction programme and highlighted the various courses and their syllabi, emphasizing their relevance in students’ academic journey.
In his concluding remarks, Dr. Ahmad Mujtaba Siddiqui, who conducted the programme, highlighted the vision of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan and urged the students to follow his path of education, self-reliance and modern thinking. He stressed that Sir Syed’s mission was not just to educate people but to empower them.
He reminded the students that they are the future of the country, the university and the department, and are entrusted with the responsibility to carry forward Sir Syed’s legacy.
The induction programme was followed by the election of Geographical Society of the department, which according to Prof. Ateeque Ahmed was established in 1925 with the establishment of the department and was earlier called as Lord Curzon Society, while the department was called as the Butler Department.
Mohammad Waseem (MA Final) has been elected as the Vice President, Zainab Nadia (MA 1st Year) as the Secretary and Laiba Akhtar (MA Final) as the Joint Secretary.
The Executive Members include Butool Naqvi (MA Final), Kashish Firoz (MA Final), Maryam Batool Naqvi (MA Final), Dilshad Ahmed (MA Final), Shivansh Shukla (MA 1st Year) and Humed Adam Ali (MA 1st Year).
The chief guest, Prof. Sartaj Tabassum presented badges to the newly elected office-bearers of the Society.
The Vice President, Mohammad Waseem extended a vote of thanks and thanked the chief coordinators of the Society, Dr. Ahmed Mujtaba Siddiqui and Dr. Saleha Jamal for their cooperation and support.
