Industry expert interaction on future trends in the tech industry held at CGC Landran

The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), CGC Landran, organised an expert talk on recent developments and future trends in the tech industry in association with Hoping Minds. Invited industry expert, Ms. Surbhi Verma, Project Manager, Google Headquarters, California, USA, shared her valuable views on the theme with CGC students.

Dignitaries present at the event included, Prof. (Dr.) Vinay Bhatia, HoD, ECE Department, CGC Landran, Mr. Ishan Kapoor, Co-Founder, Hoping Minds and members of faculty. In addition to fostering industry-academia collaboration the session aimed at offering the students an insight on the latest advancements in, and their impact on future trends in the tech industry. It also sought to offer them valuable guidance on potential career paths and opportunities in the rapidly evolving tech landscape.

Interacting with CGC students, Ms. Verma began by sharing a brief primer about her professional journey. She highlighted how the knowledge and skills acquired through internships and short courses not only complemented her college studies but were instrumental in preparing her for the real professional world, giving her an edge over her peers. She further went on to speak about big tech companies like Google and how they continue to leverage advancements in technology for making lives better for people across the globe. She also threw light on what skills and qualities big tech companies and organsiations look for, in a prospective candidate, during the hiring process. Encouraging students to make their plan of action for short-term goals, she urged them to continue learning and bettering themselves in everything they choose to do.  She closed her address by sharing more details about the hiring and interview process at Google.

Helming the question-answer session, post her talk,  Ms. Verma answered CGC students’ queries about the job outlook in the industry, tips for becoming a consistent learner, impact of AI on the tech industry and the job scenario, recommendations for aspiring coders and data scientists among a host of others. The expert interaction concluded with the felicitation of Ms Verma followed by the vote of thanks by Prof. (Dr.) Bhatia.
