Institut Polytechnique de Paris and Inria Strengthen their Leadership in Digital Science and AI
Paris: Inria (French National Research Institute for Digital Science and Technology) and the Institut Polytechnique de Paris (IP Paris) sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in order to establish a strengthened partnership, with the creation of the “Inria Center of the Institut Polytechnique de Paris”. The MoU identifies and defines the first major collaborative projects on future research topics.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is signed by Bruno Sportisse, Chairman and CEO of Inria, and Eric Labaye, President of the Institut Polytechnique de Paris, in order to established an enhanced partnership. This collaboration between the two organizations, based on their common objectives, will revolve around three pillars: research and education, information transfer and innovation, and support for research and innovation.
In order to reinforce the scientific ambition and the attractiveness of research and education in the digital field, this MoU will strengthen Inria’s presence in existing and planned IP Paris interdisciplinary centers (on AI, Defense and Security, Health Sciences, and Quantum Technologies). It will promote high-risk research, enable the deployment of an active policy for attracting the best scientific talent, and implement the creation of a building dedicated to research in Mathematics. This collaboration will also support the creation and accompaniment of start-up projects (by developing synergies between the Inria Startup Studio and the Drahi-X Novation Center at École Polytechnique), and will develop new agreements with strategic industrial partners. Finally, this MoU will strengthen collaboration between the two institution’s research support services in order to best accompany researchers and their initiatives.
For Eric Labaye, President of the Institut Polytechnique de Paris, “This partnership with Inria exemplifies our shared ambition to strengthen our technological and digital leadership in France and across Europe as a whole. In combining the expertise and excellence in Computer Science and Mathematics shared by IP Paris and Inria, we can develop breakthrough research together in order to confront major challenges, increase the economic impact of innovation, and significantly strengthen our international attractiveness. The co-development of our interdisciplinary centers, such as Hi! PARIS, dedicated to Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, will combine teaching and research at the highest possible level to cover a wide range of deep tech fields, from machine learning to societal, economical, and ethical issues emerging with data growth”.
Bruno Sportisse, Chairman and CEO of Inria, adds, “The Institut Polytechnique de Paris’ ambition is to accelerate the construction of a scientific, technological, and industrial leadership, through digital means, from France, and in a European dynamic. As such, Inria constitutes a tool for the sovereignty and digital strategic autonomy of the French Nation. This ambition is based on the coherence and synergies between national and territorial policies, in fully engaging Inria, through its research centers, in the development of world-class research universities, and putting it at the heart of entrepreneurial and industrial ecosystems energized by digital means, while upholding a requirement for scientific, economic, and societal impact. In line with the evolution of our site policy, as part of our Objectives and Performance Agreement for 2019-2023, this is the aim of the strengthened partnership between Inria Saclay – Île-de-France and the Institut Polytechnique de Paris”.
