Institute of Ophthalmology organises CME

Aligarh: To help young ophthalmologists hone their skills and learn new treatment procedures; the Institute of Ophthalmology, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) organised a Continuing Medical Education (CME) program on ‘Diseases of Uvea’ in which resource persons, Padma Shree Emeritus Professor Amod Gupta, PGIMER, Chandigarh and JNMC alumna, Dr Manisha Agarwal, Head of Vitreoretina Services and Uvea Consultant, Dr Shroff’s Charity Eye Hospital, New Delhi delineated symptoms, diagnosis and treatments of Uveitis in Indian context.

Prof Amod gave presentations on ‘Diagnosis and Treatment of Uveitis’ and ‘Diagnosis and Treatment of Tubercular Uveitis’, while Dr Manisha’s presentations were on ‘Common Mistakes in Infectious Posterior Uveitis’ and ‘Varied Manifestations of Tubercular Uveitis’.

Case comparisons were made and participants obtained guidance on discussing medical cases from the resource persons.

Prof Amod and Dr Manisha addressed different medical approaches to give participants a better understanding of new diagnostic tools for Uveitis detection.

The Chief Guest of the inaugural function, Prof O P Ahuja, former Director, Institute of Ophthalmology discussed Surgical Management and Case Discussion on difficult cases. He also spoke about his involvement with the JNMC and what motivated him to become an ophthalmologist.

During the welcome address, Prof Rakesh Bhargav, Officiating Dean, Faculty of Medicine spoke on the rising number of patients affected by ‘Diseases of Uvea’ and delineated Uveitis treatment procedures.

Emphasising the importance of CMS programmes, Prof Shahid Siddiqui, Principal and CMS, JNMC said that expert scientific lectures in the CME will update students with the latest methods of treatment.

Prof Mohammad Ashraf, Director, Institute of Ophthalmology and Chairman, Organizing Committee gave a brief introduction of the guests and details of the scientific sessions of the CME.

Dr Shaik Mohammed Zakir, Organizing Secretary of the CME proposed the vote of thanks, while Dr Sahleen Ahmad Khan conducted the Programme.

Dr Ziya Siddiqui, Dr Syed Wajahat Ali Rizvi and Dr Naheed Akhtar were the co-organizing secretaries of the CME. Dr Abdul Warris was the Treasurer.
