Inter Ministerial Committee meeting to be convened soon to resolve concerns of J&K students studying outside their state
New Delhi: During the last one week, the Union Home Minister Shri Rajnath Singh is personally involved in hearing and resolving the grievances of students of Jammu & Kashmir studying in various universities outside the state.
There are about 9,000 students from J&K regularly availing the benefit of Prime Minister Scholarship Scheme. Some other students had concerns regarding non-release of their scholarships because of incomplete forms and admissions in the institutes which are not recognised. There is also a concern of relaxation of the norms and maintaining of standard of education in different institutes.
Shri Rajnath Singh had announced at Srinagar on August 25, 2016 that MHA will nominate a nodal officer to address the grievances of people of Jammu & Kashmir. Subsequently, Dr. Sanjay Roy, Director (Kashmir Division) was nominated as the nodal officer, to whom grievances can be reported 24/7 on the phone nos. 011-23092923, 011-23092885 & email [email protected].
During the last 10 days, over 200 grievances relating mainly to non-disbursement of scholarship and other issues have been received through telephone in MHA, in addition to, about 50 grievances through email. The nodal officer has personally acknowledged the receipt of grievances received on email. These grievances have been forwarded to Ministry of Human Resource Development and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) for action and resolving the issues at the earliest.
There are about 10-12 universities / colleges including Mewar University and Gyan Vihar University, Rajasthan in the country where some of the students are having concerns. A group of about 30 students on call from Union Home Minister had met him and the Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister on September 7, 2016 from Rajasthan and Haryana. Their meeting was arranged with the Chairman, AICTE on September 8, 2016 for verification and confirmation of their issues. After meeting him yesterday, these students were fully satisfied with the approach adopted by the Central Government. They profusely expressed their sincere gratitude to the initiative taken by the Home Minister and also thanked HRD Ministry and AICTE for their extra ordinary approach for solving their issues.
The Government will be convening the Inter Ministerial Committee (IMC) meeting shortly to resolve the remaining issues. The AICTE has also issued letters to the institutes stating that the studies of these students should not be discontinued for want of scholarship money.
