Interdisciplinary Brain Research Centre Organises Special Lecture

Aligarh : Dr. Adil G. Khan, Associate Professor, King’s College London delivered a lecture entitled “Neural circuits underlying memory and attention: Imaging and perturbing neurons during behavior”, at the Interdisciplinary Brain Research Centre (IBRC), Faculty of Medicine, Aligarh Muslim University.

Dr. Khan said that a fundamental problem in neuroscience is to understand how the brain generates purposeful, intelligent behavior. Cognitive control, which is a hallmark of intelligent behavior, includes functions such as working memory, decision making and attentional switching. These phenomena have been traditionally studied in humans and monkeys. Rodents such as mice have sophisticated cognitive abilities as well thus allowing the use of a powerful set of molecular and genetic tools to study the brain function in them. He explained how to investigate the neural circuits underlying flexible behavior and attention.

Professor Veena Maheshwari, Dean, Faculty of Medicine, Principal and CMS, J.N. Medical College and Hospital, AMU highlighted the importance of Neuroscience research in India. She emphasised the significance of the lecture.

Professor Shagufta Moin, Coordinator, IBRC welcomed the audience and introduced the guest speaker. She also discussed the ongoing research on neuroscience at IBRC.

Faculty members, research scholars and Residents from the Faculties of Medicine, Engineering and Technology, Life Sciences, Interdisciplinary Biotechnology Unit, and Interdisciplinary Nanotechnology Centre attended the programme.
