International agency “Slovo” has launched a new project – student club “Mir”
Mir is an association of PetrSU students with the aim of helping foreign students who have come to study at Petrozavodsk University to adapt to life in Russia and make new friends.
Here is what the head of “Mir” – Faina Ivashkina, a 2nd year student of the Institute of History, Social and Political Sciences of PetrSU, said:
I have been volunteering for 5 years. It all started with the beloved youth and children’s association “Ovsyanka” in the city of Kondopoga. What we just did not do … Flash mobs, city quests, master classes, reporting and election conferences, trips around Karelia and much more. There I managed to visit the head of the “Cultural events” and the chairman of “Ovsyanka”. Then I entered St. Petersburg. Living and studying in the northern capital was cool, but it lacked that friendly volunteer atmosphere. I searched for a long time and in vain. It is not for nothing that statistics assert that Karelia has one of the coolest volunteer movements. A year later, she re-entered PetrSU for him, and got into such a volunteer association as the international agency “SLOVO”. It was worth it! “WORD” helps foreigners feel more comfortable in our country and show everyone that getting to know other cultures is cool. Here I was lucky to communicate with children from other countries and find new friends, to participate in the projects “International Lessons of Friendship”, “Culinary Festival” and “Dialogues of the Planet”. And now she has set a new task for herself – to become the head of a new project, that is, the student club “Mir”. I feel it will be fun and exciting. As the head of the club I want that: the club always reigns comfort and friendliness; foreigners liked to study at PetrSU and wanted to return to Russia; volunteers developed and overcame new challenges; the guys found support and new friends.
