International CME on Hematology Begins at AMU
Aligarh : “Hematopathology plays a pivotal role in understanding, diagnosing, and treating a wide spectrum of diseases encompassing multiple organ systems of our body”, said Prof. Bakul Dalal, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada (President of Association of Indian Pathologists in North America-(AIPNA), while presenting the keynote address in the inaugural session of the two-day International CME on Hematology: Basic Concept and Changing Paradigms organized by the Department of Pathology, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University.
Prof. Dalal said that Hematopatholgy is constantly evolving, driven by relentless research, innovation, and collaboration.
Prof. Dalal also promised to donate the Department of Pathology equipment worth more than one crore rupees, which will help in diagnosis of blood diseases and cancers.
Chief Guest, Mr. Mohd. Imran, IPS, Registrar, AMU said that Hematology covers a wide spectrum of diseases and conditions that relate to both malignant and non-malignant diseases. “The advent of better diagnostic techniques has improved our understanding of the system and shapes the field today”, he said, adding that the students who are interested in pursuing hematology have a variety of career tracks to choose from. This CME will offer participants a platform to exchange ideas, discover novel opportunities and broaden their knowledge, he added.
Prof. Veena Maheshwari, Dean, Faculty of Medicine said that Hematology is deeply rewarding work, with the opportunity to help patients with life-threatening illness through both hands-on patient care and practice-changing research. Prof. Maheshwari said that advances in the field of hematology have increased hematologists’ ability to cure patients or help them achieve greater quality of life. “Several hematologic disorders have transformed from terminal diagnoses to curable diseases and manageable life-long conditions”, she added.
He further said that eminent experts in their respective fields from various centers of excellence in India as well as abroad will be delivering state of art didactic talks during the conference.
Prof. Haris Manzoor Khan, Principal and CMS said that Hematology is an incredibly exciting field where current discoveries offer promise to make a real impact on the survival of patients with life-threatening hematologic diseases. Hematologic problems are an accompaniment to disease in nearly every realm of medicine, and hematology consultative expertise plays a vital role in the spectrum of clinical care in every specialty in medicine.
Prof. Mahboob Hasan, Organizing Chairman said that this CME has been organized in conjunction with leading luminaries in Haematology. Postgraduate students can take advantage of this opportunity to enhance their knowledge and discuss some of the latest trends through close interaction with eminent experts in the field.
Prof. Nishat Afroz, Organizing Secretary of the CME said the lectures and discussions will particularly be advantageous to Haematologists, clinicians including Paediatricians and Allied health professionals who are interested in learning about current diagnostic modalities in this field.
