International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking observed at AMU

ALIGARH : The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, falling on June 26, has been widely observed at various departments, colleges and schools at the Aligarh Muslim University aiming at creating awareness among students to keep away from intoxicating substances and remain vigilant against the vicious trap of illicit drug trade.

Dr. Ziauddin Ahmad Dental College and Hospital observed the day with a series of events organized over the last ten days, including the e-Pledge campaign, slogan writing competition, skit and awareness drive.

The e-pledge campaign encouraged the faculty and students to take a solemn pledge against drug abuse. A personalized pledge link with the slogan, “Say No to Drugs, Yes to Life”, was distributed, and the participants received certificates.

The Public Health Dentistry section of the Department of Periodontia and Community Dentistry, the undergraduate students and interns participated in a slogan-writing activity on the theme, “The Evidence is Clear: Invest in Prevention”.

Further, a group of students presented a skit in the conference room, which highlighted the dangers of drug abuse, particularly among teenagers.

Underscoring the importance of collaborative efforts in combating drug abuse and promoting healthier lifestyles among youth, the Principal, Prof R.K. Tewari appreciated the hard work of the organizers, including the Chairperson, Department of Periodontia and Community Dentistry, Prof. Neha Agarwal, Dr Pramod K Yadav and Dr. Syed Amaan Ali.

At the Department of Pharmacology, Jawaharlal Nehru medical College, a lecture was organized on drug abuse by Prof. Syed Ziaur Rahman, Chairman. He elaborated on the importance of the day and shared his study of animal model of morphine addiction.

He focused on the consequences of drug abuse and its social, economic and medical impact. Later, he led the resident doctors, interns and staff to take an e-pledge.
