International Day of Girl Child celebrated in Anantnag

Anantnag: The International Day of Girl Child was today celebrated here with DDC Anantnag, K.K.Sidha flagging off the rally from Govt. GHSS Anantnag to GDC for Women Anantnag to sensitize the people regarding importance of Girl Child and negative consequences of gender bias.
A felicitation ceremony for new born girls at Maternity Hospital Anantnag was organised by Department of ICDS Anantnag in-collaboration with Humanity (NGO).
Later a mass awareness programme with the theme ‘My voice, our equal future’ was also organised in the auditorium Hall of GDC for Women Anantnag.
The Additional Development Commissioner, Ghulam Hassan Sheikh was Chief Guest on the occasion and the programme was carried out in observance with covid-19 protocol.
While addressing the gathering, the ADC enlightened the audience about the role of women in society. He also laid stress on the fact that women are equal partners in the development of Human race and hence the gender stereotyping must end in the society.
DPO Anantnag, Bilqees sensitized the public about the value of Girl Child and highlighted the achievements made by women folk in different fields throughout the world.
She further added that injustice and crimes against the Girl Child viz female foeticide, child trafficking and domestic violence must end and also highlighted the importance of Governments ambitious initiatives like Beti Bachao Beti Padao, Ladli Beti etc for upliftment of women folk.
At the conclusion of the programme, different gifts and kits were distributed among mothers of girl child, adolescent girls, specially abled girls and girls who have shown academic excellence etc.
The programme was attended by District Prog. Officer, Principal GDC for women , CDPO’s and other ICDS officials , members of NGO, students of GDC for Women Anantnag etc.
