INTERNATIONAL DAY OF YOGA 2024: THOUSANDS PERFORM YOGA IN BANARAS HINDU UNIVERSITY

VARANASI : Members of Banaras Hindu University joined fellow countrymen in celebrating the 10th International Day of Yoga on Friday. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sudhir Kumar Jain led the BHU fraternity as he performed Yoga alongside teachers, students, and staff at the iconic Malaviya Bhawan premises in the university. Hundreds of participants performed asanas under the guidance of yoga teacher Dr. Yogesh Kumar Bhatt. Registrar Prof. Arun Kumar Singh, Dean of Students Prof. Anupam Kumar Nema, Honorary Director, Malaviya Bhawan, Prof. Raja Ram Shukla, Directors of Institutes, and senior officials of the university joined the celebration which began at 6.30 am with floral tributes to Mahamana Pt. Madan Mohan Malaviya ji, the revered founder of Banaras Hindu University. The Vice-Chancellor conveyed his wishes to the members of the university on the occasion of International Day of Yoga 2024. Winners of various competitions and activities organized on the occasion of International Yoga Day were also awarded on the occasion.
From main campus to South Campus at Barkachha, Yoga Day celebrations in BHU saw thousands of participants attending multiple activities. Yoga sessions were organized at various institutes, centers, university sports board, and hostels where students, teachers and staff members performed asanas.
The theme of this year’s International Yoga Day is “Yoga for self and society.” Banaras Hindu University has been leading by example in taking yoga to masses and raising awareness in the society for making it part of day-to-day life. The Yog Sadhna Kendra at the Malaviya Bhawan runs multiple batches for yoga classes which are attended by students, members of BHU, and people in general, in large numbers. Besides, the center also launched fifteen day free orientation course for Yoga enthusiasts in order to prepare them mentally and physically for joining a full-fledged program. The workshops help participants overcome their hesitation and the difficulties in performing Yoga Asanas by training their body and mind.
