International Museum Day at the Dept of Museology

 

Aligarh: The department of Museology, A.M.U., celebrated International Museum Day (IMD), on 18th May to raise awareness about the fact that, “Museums are an important means of cultural exchange, enrichment of cultures and development of mutual understanding, cooperation and peace among peoples.”. To commemorate the day lecture sessions of faculty members of the department were also held.

First lecture was delivered by Dr Danish Mehmood, Assistant Professor, Department of Museology on “Museum Sustainability”. He talked about the potential of museums to inspire and engage visitors on the urgent need for climate action and the role that communities can play in mitigating climate change.

Second lecture was delivered by Dr Ameeza Zarrin, Assistant Professor, Department of Museology where she emphasized on the potential of museum to promote health and well-being for all ages, especially regarding mental health and social isolation.

The Department also organized a “Guided Tour” (Part of outreach program) at Musa Dakri Museum for the school children of Aligarh. More than 150 students of M.U. College and Blossom School participated in this guided tour. Research scholars and M.Sc. students in three groups guided the students. Students showed keen interest in understanding the stories and information through museum objects of cultural and natural heritage preserved at Musa Dakri Museum.

The staff members of the department and Musa Dakri Museum collectively organised the event.
