International Museum Day Celebrated at AMU

 

Aligarh : To mark the International Museum Day, the Department of Museology, A.M.U Aligarh organized a one-day seminar on “The Power of Museums”, in collaboration with ICOM-India (International Council of Museums) and ICBCP (International Council for Biodeterioration of Cultural Property) on 18th May in the hybrid mode.

Prof Ambika Patel, President ICOM-INDIA (International Council of Museum- Indian National Committee) spelt out how to achieve sustainability in museums.

Dr Virendra Nath, President International Council for Biodeterioration of Cultural Property (ICBCP) talked about the role of ICBCP in the field of Conservation.

It was followed by “Dr Shashi Dhawan Memorial Lecture” delivered by Ms Mamta Misra, Director INTACH Conservation Institute, Lucknow, on the “Conservation of Museum collections”.

Prof Mohammad Afzal, Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences, AMU, delivered the inaugural address.

In his welcome address Prof Abduraheem K.(Chairperson, Department of Museology, A.M.U and the General Secretary, ICOM-INDIA; laid emphasis on of innovating on digitalization and accessibility in museums.

Dr Mandana Barkeshli, Associate Professor, Melbourne University, Australia spoke on the power of community building through education in museums.

Dr Ameeza Zarrin (Assistant Professor, Department of Museology), paid a vote of thanks.

Dr Danish Mehmood (Convener) and Dr Suboohi Nasrin (Co-Convener) jointly conducted the proceedings.
