International Women’ S Day celebration at Rural Health Training Centre

ALIGARH :  The Rural Health Training Centre (RHTC), Jawan, running under the Department of Community Medicine, J N Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University organized a commemorative programme to mark the International Women’s Day.

 

Welcoming the guests, Prof. Saira Mehnaz (Chairperson of the department) stressed the need for spreading awareness about legal rights of women and urged to organize programmes to promote gender equality and inclusiveness at all levels.

 

The guest of honor, Prof. Zulfia Khan emphasized that educating a female child is educating society. She said women should know of their rights from childhood so that they are aware from the very beginning what they deserve and how one should assert herself in a challenging situation.

 

Another guest of honor, Dr. Sumbul Khan stressed the fact that women have a big role in building a strong foundation of society and for them being physically and mentally healthy is very important for a progressive society.

 

Ms. Pooja Saini (Assistant Legal Aid Defense Counsel, Aligarh), while conveying message from the chief guest, Mr. Dinesh Kumar Nagar (Additional District and Sessions Judge, Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Aligarh), highlighted the legal rights of women and pointed out that women often hesitate to seek legal help because they fear criticism from the family members and society. They also become alienated in family matters if their husbands do not support them. In such cases they must rise against the tide and assert their rights through legal measures by dialing a toll-free helpline number 1091 (central social welfare board), if necessary.

 

Mr. Kishan Kumar Singh and Mr. Somendra Sharma, Assistant Legal Aid Defense Counsel, explained how women can get legal help. They also provided contact information of the concerned cell.

 

Earlier, Dr. Uzma Eram (Member Incharge, RHTC) welcomed the guests while Dr. Shivangi (Senior Resident) gave brief introduction to the International Women’s Day.

Free refractive services were provided to about 60 women with free hemoglobin tests and medicines on this occasion, apart from distribution of legal help awareness pamphlets.
