ISPS International Conference starts at Institute of Physics, Bhubaneswar from 21-23rd December, 2019

Bhubaneswar: P.G. Department of Statistics organizing a Three-day International Conference on “Recent Advances in Statistics and Data Science for Sustainable Development” in conjunction with XXXIX Annual Convention of Indian Society for Probability and Statistics (ISPS) to be held from 21-23rd December, 2019 at Institute of Physics Auditorium, Bhubaneswar. The inaugural ceremony will be held at 10.00 AM on 21st December 2019.
The conference is a part of the celebration of 100 years of Birth Anniversary of Prof. C.R. Rao(born 10 September 1920), is an Indian-American mathematician and statistician. He is currently professor emeritus at Pennsylvania State University and Research Professor at the University at Buffalo. Rao has been honoured by numerous colloquia, honorary degrees, and festschrifts and was awarded the US National Medal of Science in 2002. The American Statistical Association has described him as “a living legend whose work has influenced not just statistics, but has had far reaching implications for fields as varied as economics, genetics, anthropology, geology, national planning, demography, biometry, and medicine.”
The conference aims to bring researchers, academicians and corporate people, involved in statistical theory and practice, to a common platform. Exchange of new innovations and ideas through novel ways, inspiring the young minds to galvanize the research arena and expanding the scientific horizons of statistical thinking are the other important objectives of the conference. The target of hosting the conference is to make the meet a rendezvous of statistical researchers to explore their remarkable contributions and journey through emerging challenges and paradigms in recent advances in statistics and data science for sustainable development. This is expected to excel the creativity of the delegates and spur them to contribute remarkable and productive research outputs. The main agenda of the conference includes lectures by eminent statisticians, Plenary talks, Invited sessions, Technical paper presentations in addition to usual conference proceedings consists of Research paper competitions, endowment/ memorial lectures, etc.
Prof. Soumendra Mohan Patnaik, Vice-Chancellor, Utkal University graced the occasion as Chief Guest and highlighted the importance of Statistics education and Data Science for sustainable development, Prof. A.M. Mathai, Mc Gill University, Canada joined the Conference as Guest of Honour, Prof. S Rao Jamalamadaka of University of California; Sri Dayanidhi Jena, Registrar, Utkal University also graced the audience. Prof. K.B. Panda, Professor and Head, P.G. Department of Statistics gave the introduced the guests. Dr. Priyaranjan Dash gave vote thanks in the meeting.
Prof. J.S. RAO, Distinguished Professor, University of California will receive Dr. C R RAO Life Time Achievement award, Prof. Debasis Kundu, I.I.T. Kanpur.; Prof. T.S. Arthanari, University of Auckland and Prof. Ashis Sengupta, Indian Statistical Institute has received Fellow award of ISPS. Around 300 research scholars and faculties from different parts of India and also abroad participated in the conference.
