New Delhi – The Embassy of Italy in New Delhi, in collaboration with the Embassy of Italy Cultural Centre in New Delhi, the Cultural Institute of Italy in Mumbai, and the Consulate General of Italy in Bengaluru, proudly presents the highly anticipated 2024 flagship event: “India, Jazz Up!” – a groundbreaking jazz concert showcasing the unparalleled talents of Paolo Fresu, Rita Marcotulli, and Trilok Gurtu.
This unique musical extravaganza marks a significant milestone in the cultural exchange between Italy and India, celebrating the rich tapestry of both nations’ heritage while embracing innovation and creativity. Renowned for their virtuosity and versatility, Paolo Fresu, Rita Marcotulli, and Trilok Gurtu represent a convergence of diverse musical traditions, seamlessly blending Mediterranean melodies with the rhythmic complexities of Indian folk beats.
According to Vincenzo de Luca, Ambassador of Italy to India and Nepal, “India, Jazz Up!” epitomizes the deep-rooted cultural ties between Italy and India, serving as a testament to the enduring friendship and solidarity between the two nations. This collaborative effort underscores the significance of cultural diplomacy in fostering mutual understanding and appreciation.

Paolo Fresu, revered for his emotive trumpet solos and profound musical expression, brings a touch of European jazz nouvelle vague to the ensemble. Rita Marcotulli, a celebrated pianist and composer known for her eclectic style and improvisational prowess, infuses the performance with influences from Brazilian, African, and Indian music. Meanwhile, Trilok Gurtu, a master drummer and pioneer of world music, bridges the gap between Indian classical traditions and Western jazz, funk, and beyond.
The tour commences on February 27th with a masterclass for music students at Piano Man New Delhi, followed by the much-anticipated Live Concert on February 29th, 2024, at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi. Subsequent performances will be held on March 2nd at the NCPA in Mumbai and on March 3rd at the Prestige Srihari Khoday Centre for Performing Arts in Bengaluru.
