ITMO: ITMO University Expands Its Presence in THE University Impact Rankings
The ranking agency Times Higher Education has its annual Impact Rankings. This ranking launched in 2019 aims to measure the impact that universities all over the world have on the social and economical development of their home countries through the prism of the UN’s . ITMO University applied for 10 out of 17 goal-based categories and was included in the rankings for all of them. For example, it entered the top 100 in the Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure category by placing 76th.
Last year, ITMO was ranked in seven categories: No Poverty; Good Health and Well-Being; Decent Work and Economic Growth; Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions; Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure; Sustainable Cities and Communities; as well as Partnerships for the Goals. This year, the list of categories for which ITMO University applied was supplemented by Quality Education, Affordable and Clean Energy, and Responsible Consumption and Production. The Quality Education ranking the following parameters: research on early-years and lifelong education, the proportion of graduates with teaching qualifications and first-generation students, and lifelong learning measures. In the Affordable and Clean Energy category, the ranking a university’s research on clean energy, measures taken towards affordable and clean energy, as well as energy use and energy and the community criteria. The parameters in the Responsible Consumption and Production category are: research on responsible consumption and production, operational measures, proportion of recycled waste, and publication of sustainability reports.
ITMO University was evaluated based on the above-mentioned goals and ranked 401-600, thus entering the top 600 of the global ranking, which included a total of 1,406 universities. In order to enter the global ranking, a university must contribute to at least four goals, including Partnerships for the Goals, which is deemed the most important one by the authors of the ranking.
