Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain Campaign- 2022

 

Aligarh : The department of Physics, AMU, organised a function as a part of the campaign “Jal Shakti Abhiyan-Catch the Rain Campaign-2022”’ to conserve rain water and recharge the groundwater.

Chief Guest Prof Mohd. Masroor Alam (Dept of Civil Engineering, ZHCET,AMU) delivered a talk on “Water Conservation”; He explained the origin, type and formation of water along with its important facts and also discussed the statistical data related to water use and its need and covered various schemes to be adopted for water conservation. Prof Alam said water is the “Elixir of Life”.

“Jal Shakti Abhiyan-Catch the Rain Campaign-2022”; is a concerted national campaign with the collective participation of all stakeholders to strengthen water security in India, he added.

Prof BP Singh, Chairman, dept. of Physics, in his welcome address said that India’s one third geographical area is running dry due to over exploitation of the ground-water and this has prompted the governments to adopt water conservation on national scale through mission “Jal Shakti Abhiyan” with motto “Catch the Rain – Where it Falls & When It Falls” as a major step to facilitate sustainable management of water resources of the country.

Dr Jai Prakash (Physics Department) discussed the main features of the Jal Shakti Abhiyan and highlighted the national call to action for water conservation by the Government of India.

The talk was attended by a large number of students and faculty members. Vote of thanks was delivered by Dr Prakash.
