Jal Shakti Department hosts mega workshop on JJM at Udhampur

 

Udhampur: To generate awareness among the common masses about Jal Jeevan Mission, a daylong mega workshop on water Sanitation and Hygiene was organized by Jal Shakti Department Udhampur here in collaboration with project implementing agency Jay Kay Women Welfare Society, Jammu, here at Riwayat Banquet Hall.

District Development Council, Chairperson, Lal Chand, in presence of Additional Deputy Commissioner, Mohammad Syed Khan, Superintendent Engineer, Hydraulics, PP Arora inaugurated the workshop.

The SE, who is also the member Secretary of Jal Jeevan Mission, in his welcome address, threw light on water sanitation and hygiene. He informed that Jal Jeevan Mission is centrally sponsored scheme, launched by the Government of India with objective to provide 100% tap water ‘Har Ghar Nal Se Jal’ to all households in the country.

While highlighting the importance of maintaining water, sanitation and hygiene, the SE appealed all the participants to keep their surroundings clean and also motivate others in maintaining the cleanliness.

Resource person, Tanveer gave a detailed power point presentation on water sanitation and hygiene on the occasion.

During the workshop, Artists from Information department, Cultural Wing Jammu presented a scintillating cultural programme, which was highly applauded by the audiences. A theme based skit on water sanitation and hygiene was presented by Artists of Bhartiya Kala Manch Udhampur which was the main attraction of the event on the occasion.

While addressing the gathering, the DDC Chairperson, said that ‘Jal Jeevan Mission’ is centrally sponsored scheme launched by the Government of India with the objective to provide 100% tap water to all households in the country. He stressed that water conservation is very important for the future generation and also highlighted the importance of water hygiene and its advantages in present life. He added that the demands are increasing every year for water while resources are becoming more and more limited.

He said that such type of workshops play an important role in educating people about the importance and judicious use of water. He also highlighted the need to keep water bodies neat and clean and take measures to conserve them for future.

He asked the concerned department to conduct more such workshops in urban as well as rural areas on regular basis for creating awareness among the masses about the benefits of saving water.

Highlighting the need for conservation and economic usage of water, the Chairman stressed that grassroots level awareness is needed to make every drop count. He urged the general public of the district Udhampur to develop water saving habits and use the precious natural resources judiciously to save it for future generations.

Among others, President Municipal Council, Dr Jogeshwar Gupta, BDCs, DDC members, MC Councillors, SE R&B Shakti Sagar, Chief Palnning Officer, Rajeev Bhushan, Assistant Commissioner Development, Mushtaq Chowdhary, District Social Welfare Officer, Er Sajad Bashir Somberia, Xen PHE Taj Choudhary and other District officers besides prominent citizens were present on the occasion.
