Jamia Hamdard celebrates Unani Day by organising Hybrid National Symposium

New Delhi: School of Unani Medical Education and Research, Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi, organized a Hybrid National Symposium as part of Unani Day Celebration 2021 with the theme “RESEARCH IN UNANI MEDICINE: HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE AND OPPORTUNITIES IN CURRENT SCENARIO” .

The symposium was in hybrid mode i.e. both the virtual and physical modes. The physical programme was held at Convention Centre, Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi. Shri Satyendra Jain Hon’ble Minister of Health, Govt. of NCT of Delhi was the Chief Guest of the symposium. Prof. (Dr.) Asim Ali Khan, Director General, CCRUM was the Distinguished Guest of Honour and Dr. Pradeep Kr. Aggarwal, Chairman, Examining Body for Paramedical Training for Bharatiya Chikitsa, Delhi Dept. of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of NCT of Delhi attended as the Guest of Honour.

The stalwarts of Unani Medicine, Padma Shri Prof. Syed Zillur Rahman and Prof. (Dr.) Syed Shakir Jamil were speakers in the National Symposium. The function was presided by the Prof. (Dr.) M. A. Jafri, Vice Chancellor, Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi. . The event provided a platform to discuss wide range of topics which would help in developing knowledge and understanding Unani System of Medicine and its contribution to health and well-being.

The organizing chairman of the symposium, Prof. S.M. Arif Zaidi, Dean, School of Unani Medical Education and Research, in his welcome address stated that Unani fraternity at this school is committed towards bringing the best of Unani healthcare, education and research and contribute positively to present to healthcare system with utmost dedication.

Speaking on the occasion and paying homage to Hkm. Ajmal Khan, Dr. Pradeep Kr. Aggarwal, the Guest of Honour, assured the support and encouragement in the propagation and promotion of AYUSH systems in general and Unani medicine in particular.

Prof. (Dr.) Asim Ali Khan, Director General, CCRUM, emphasised the role of interdisciplinary approach in advancement and upgradation of Unani medicine nationally and internationally.
Shri Satyendra Jain Ji, Hon’ble Minister of Health, Govt. of NCT of Delhi, Chief Guest, paying tribute to Hkm Ajmal Khan and Late Hkm Abdul Hameed, he congratulated the corona warriors of Jamia Hamdard in combating covid-19 and he extended his assurance and support, to Jamia Hamdard from the Govt. of NCT of Delhi.

In his presidential remarks, Prof. (Dr.) M. A. Jafri, Vice Chancellor, Jamia Hamdard, emphasised the integral role of research in transformation and upliftment of Unani medicine as evidence-based medicine.

Prof. Syed Zillur Rahman while providing the historical background of World Unani day said that Hakim Ajmal Khan is the founder of Ayurvedic Medicine who envisioned the role of Unani Medicine long before. He said that Ajmal Khan emphasized on the establishing of laboratories for research to sustain the traditional Medicine system.

The main objective of World Unani Day is to spread awareness about health care delivery through Unani system of medicine through its preventive and curative philosophy. A galaxy of experts and luminaries from the field of health sciences shared their knowledge, experiences and innovations. There was participation from industry, academia and research organizations engaged in the development of Unani Medicine and related health sciences.

It should be noted that the Unani Day is celebrated every year to mark the birth anniversary of great Unani scholar and social reformer Hakim Ajmal Khan. He was an eminent Indian Unani physician who was a versatile genius, a great scholar, a social reformer, a noted freedom fighter, a Unani medical educationist and founder of scientific research in Unani System of Medicine
