Jamia Hamdard celebrates world Optometry Day with theme “Enhancing Your Vision”

New Delhi: World Optometry Day was celebrated on 25th March 2021 at Jamia Hamdard by Department of Paramedical Sciences. It was the first time World Optometry Day was celebrated at Jamia Hamdard with the conduction of a Continuing Medical Education (CME) practice to mark the occasion.
The events and inauguration function were held at convention center with almost more than 150 students participating in the programme. The day started off with students participating in the Rangoli Competition, Essay Writing Competition, Poster competition and Presentations keeping in mind the theme of the CME which is “Enhancing Your Vision’’
The inauguration function was presided by Professor M.A. Jafri (Vice-Chancellor, Jamia Hamdard) ,Prof. Ona Desai( Dean, Department of Paramedical Sciences),Prof.(Dr.)Manju Chhugani (HoD, Department of Paramedical Sciences) and inaugurated by Mr. Sanjay K. Mishra (Scientist at Dr RP Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences, AIIMS, New Delhi).
Prof. M.A. Jafri, the Vice Chancellor of Jamia Hamdard initiated the proceeding of the programme while Mr. Sanjay K.Mishra, the Key note speaker spoke on Essential of Pediatric Eye Examination. He spoke on refractive Management and challenges in refraction management with focus on “Essentials of Pediatric Eye Examinations. Mr.Phani Krishna(Academician) expressed his thoughts by talking about artificial intelligence and its perspective in optometry Field. He also spoke about digital ability to diagnosis of diseases related to eyes.
An additional session by Mr. Sunil Kr, Das(Optometry In-charge , contact lens and low vision specialist at Ahooja Eye and Dental Institute Gurugram) was held, where he delivered his thoughts on scope and career growth in the field on optometry.
Mr. Gaurav Dubey (Faculty in the Department of Optometry at the Uttar Pradesh University of Medical Sciences, Saifai, Etawah) delivered a session on ‘Basics of writing Research Papers’. He focused on writing abstract and objective for any research topic while talking about the language barrier faced by students while writing research paper.
The last session was taken by Ms. Nida (Contact lens Practitioner in Purecon Silverline laboratories) where she stressed on Visual Rehabilitation on irregular Corneas by Scleral Lenses. She also provided information on Scleral contact lens (ScCL) which is more effective in irregular corneas than traditional corneal RGP lens.

After the richness of knowledge, the Valedictory session took place where the summarization of CME was done and certificates and Prizes were distributed. Ms. Vibha Kumari (Assistant Professor, Department of Paramedical Sciences) delivered vote of thanks.
