Jamia Hamdard secures a place in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings in its first participation

New Delhi: For the first time Jamia Hamdard (JH) has been ranked in the Times Higher Education-World University Rankings (THE-WUS Rankings). Jamia Hamdard figured within the top 800-1000 Universities in the world. It is bracketed with IIT-Dhanbad, AMU, Aligarh, Jadavpur University, IISER-Bhopal and some of the new IITs. In a little more than three decades of existence, it has carved out an important place among the best institutions in the country. It is ranked as 21st best University and its School of Pharmacy continues to be ranked as #1 in the country by NIRF, MHRD in its latest, 2020 rankings.

At Jamia Hamdard, research of interdisciplinary nature is encouraged and students from different disciplines can work on multidisciplinary topics. The faculty members and students are encouraged to undertake research and Jamia Hamdard provides seed grants to young faculty members. With state-of-the-art laboratories and Central Instrumentation Facilities to undertake cutting edge research in the areas of Science, Technology and Healthcare, JH has a large number of high technology equipment and instruments available 24×7 and worth more than Rs. 50 crores, besides those in the hospitals, says Vice-Chancellor of Jamia Hamdard Dr. Seyed Ehtesham Hasnain.

Working with the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) for the last fifteen years Jamia Hamdard have developed technologies for the health of our Armed Forces and National Security by developing antidotes delivery systems for masses in case of any terrorist insurgency. These technologies have been inducted by the Army and have already become part of the strategic preparedness of our Army. More than 13 types of drug formulations have been already given to Army-Navy under this joint research programme.

The faculty has also been publishing in high impact journals like Nature, Lancet, PNAS, USA, Autophagy to name a few and our papers continue to attract very large citations, our H-index of 118 is the 2nd highest in the country . The focus on the quality of research, experience of faculty and strong alumni network make it a preferred institution for the students interested in professional education, especially in the areas of Pharmacy, Medicine, Nursing, Allied Health, Basic Sciences, Engineering and Management.

Jamia Hamdard is the only private University to be a recipient of Promotion of University Research in Science and Engineering (PURSE) Grant from the Department of Science & Technology (DST). Currently, the University have more than eight DST- FIST (Funding for Infrastructure in Science and Technology) grants and seven UGC-Special Assistance Program (SAP) operational in our various Departments. The faculty members in Pharmacy, Chemistry and Biotechnology have demonstrated potential to create IP and go for technology transfer and entrepreneurship. The varsity have more than eighty ongoing extra-murally funded projects amounting to more than Rs. 35 crores; many more new projects have recently been sanctioned from ICMR, SERB, DST, DBT and AYUSH.
More than 13 faculty members have been granted independent fellowships of national repute like DBT- Ramalingaswamy fellowship, DST-Ramanaujan fellowship, DST-INSPIRE, UGC-Faculty Recharge Faculty. These fellowships provide the salary component, research grant funding and associated costs from five years, extendable to the entire career of the faculty member. Very recently one faculty member from the Department of Biotechnology has been awarded the very prestigious Wellcome-Trust DBT Alliance Intermediate Career Award for five years.

This year more than 40 thousand students applied for admission to about 4000 available seats. Many of the courses are in very high demand, for example students applied for BPharma get admitted with a minimum cut off of 94%, Biotechnology BSc-MSc closed at 92%.
