Jammu and Kashmir: Group Discussion on ‘Gandhiji’s Contribution to Indian Education’ held in GDC Ramgarh
SAMBA : In continuation to the series of activities under India’s Presidency in G20 and Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, Government Degree College Ramgarh on Monday organized a Group Discussion on ‘Gandhi ji’s Contribution to Indian Education’ to commemorate Gandhi Jayanti.
The event was organized under the guidance and coordination of Prof. (Dr.) Geetanjali Andotra, Principal of the College.
A total of 20 students actively participated in the discussion and put forth their thoughts.
Prof. (Dr.) Geetanjali Andotra said that Gandhi Ji advocated imparting education in mother tongue and asked for activity centered education to make the children skilled and independent. She further added that Gandhi ji wanted to construct small, self-reliant communities with its ideal citizens being all industrious, self-respecting and generous individuals. In Gandhiji’s educational thoughts the development of the personality of a child is more important than mere literacy or knowledge of different subjects.
Dr. Paramjeet Kour, Department of Education, Dr. Priya Sharma, Department of sociology and Prof. Risha Kumari, Convener of the event also spoke on different aspects of Gandhi Ji’s views on the Education System. Prof. Seema Sharma, Dr. Sandeep Kumar, Prof. Risha Kumari, Dr. Priya Sharma, Dr. Ekta Rani, Dr. Paramjeet Kour and Dr. Sunil Kumar, were also present.
Meanwhile, the National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit-Prabha of the College Ramgarh organized ‘Pledge Taking Ceremony’ on ‘Swachhata Hi Sewa’ under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav.
The program was coordinated by Dr. Shamsher Lal (NSS PO). The proceedings of the Pledge were conducted by the NSS volunteer, Jagmeet Kour. All the enrolled students, Faculty members and non-teaching staff took the pledge.
