JK Lakshmipat University’s Elderline benefitted over 45,000 senior citizens since launch
Jaipur: A toll-free senior citizen helpline service, launched by Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, and Government of Rajasthan and implemented by JK Lakshmipat University (JKLU), Jaipur, has received 150 calls per day and served over 65,000 elderly people since its launch in the state. The helpline, aptly titled ‘Elder Line’, has been operational in Rajasthan since May 18, 2021, from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm, seven days a week.
This helpline provides different facilities related to contact details of hospitals, Medical stores, or general stores. Information related to government services like pensions and employment through Sacred Portal, Government benefit, etc. Senior Citizens are also getting emotional support from this helpline who face any kind of emotional stigma through by making them realize that they are not alone.
People who are left unclaimed are sent to old-age homes by field officers. This helpline also helps senior citizens with any kind of violence and guides them about the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act. According to Mr. Prasanta Swarnakar, Program Manager of the State, said, “Daily we are getting 150 calls for help. There are 15 field officers who helps the needy by visiting them on the field. This is a totally free-of-cost helpline. Total 1089 calls landed on October 14, 2022, it is the highest single day calls.
