JMI organizes National Conference on ‘Recent Advances in Biological Sciences’

As part of the JMI centenary celebrations, Department of Biosciences, Jamia Millia Islamia organized a national conference on “RECENT ADVANCES IN BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES” (NCRABS-2020) on March 05, 2020 in the Conference Hall of Ramanujan Block, JMI.

It was inaugurated and presided over by Prof Asim Ali Khan, Director General, CCRU, Ministry of Ayush, Govt of India. Prof Khan invited Jamia researchers to collaborate with the CCRUM and also appreciated the role of Jamia in Nation building in 100 years of establishments.
Keynote address was delivered by Prof. Akhilesh K Tyagi, Delhi University on “Approaching Bioeconomy through Agribiotechnology”. He emphasized on the importance of the Bioeconomy that can be improved by Agribiotechnology. The Conference was attended by 400 participants across the country along with the faculty member of the University.

Prof Seemi Farhat Basir, Dean, Faculty of Natural Sciences, described the different sub-themes with their applications and gave an insight on importance of Biomedical Science. The function was chaired by Prof Qazi M. Rizwanul Haq, Head, Department of Biosciences.
The inaugural welcome and the conference report was delivered by Prof Meryam Sardar, the conference convener. She gave a vote of thanks on behalf of herself, her co-convenor Dr Mohd Abid and Treasurer Dr Mohd Mohsin and organizing committee, the guests and the participants to the dignitaries for gracing the function by their presence.

The conference had 4 parallel sessions and had registered a huge presence of 400 participants from across India with over 30 papers being presented orally and 160 poster presentation. Some key sessions include: “Advances in cardiovascular sciences which has change the practice of medicine” by Prof Rakesh Yadav, AIIMS, New Delhi and Dr Neetu Singh from IIT Delhi spoke on “Red Blood Cells Derived Vesicles for Theranostic Applications” and Dr Shailja Singh form JNU spoke on Palmitoylation in Mechanochemical Property of Host Erythrocytes. The conference concluded by a valedictory speech by the Co-convener Dr Mohd Abid, followed by the awards for best papers and distribution of certificates.
