JMI starts two-week Online Refresher Course in Modern Language
The UGC-Human Resource Development Centre(UGC-HRDC), JamiaMilliaIslamia(JMI) in association with various departments of languages of the university such as Arabic, English, Hindi, Sanskrit, Persian, Urdu began its two-week Online Refresher Course in Modern Language
from 23rd October,2020. About 100 delegates joined the inaugural session from different parts of the country and different languages such as Arabic, English, Hindi, Urdu, Persian, Sanskrit, Bodo, Assamese, Tamil, Malayalam etc.
Prof. AnisurRahman Director, UGC-HRDC, welcomed all dignitaries and participants including the Chief Guest of the inaugural function, Prof. NajmaAkhtar, Vice Chancellor, JMI, Key note speaker admashriShamsurRahmanFaruqi, Prof. Md. Asaduddin chair of the function and distinguished Heads of the departments of languages and others who graced the occasion.
During her inaugural address Prof. NajmaAkhtar underlined the significance of the Language Refresher Course for the participants. She highlighted the important role of teachers in shaping students’ career and bringing the educational institutions of the country to new heights.
Mr. ShamsurRahmanFaruqi, a well known poet and critic was the keynote speaker who appreciated the dynamic role of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. NajmaAkhtar in the growth and
development of JMI. In his address, he talked of different aspects of languages that gave thrust
to languages in the 21st Century.
The coordinators of the program DrFauzan Ahmad, Associate professor, Department of Arabic and DrAbhay Kumar Shandilya, Assistant Professor, Department of Sanskrit presented the course outline and explained the details of the program to the participants.
Prof. Mohd. Asaduddin, Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Languages gave the chair remarks in which he appreciated the eloquent talk of MrFaruqi and also highlighted the need and relevance of the interdisciplinarity of languages.
The inaugural function ended with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr.S AzraKhursheed.
