JMI to organise Webinar on “Discipline in Universities: Issues and Challenges”
New Delhi: Chief Proctorial Department, Jamia Millia Islamia(JMI) is organising a Webinar on “Discipline in Universities: Issues and Challenges” on September 8, 2020 with a central idea that universities are autonomous bodies encompassing not just teaching learning activities but are given the highly valued task of character formation for the generations to come.
The objective of the webinar is to discuss and explore the dimensions of need for discipline, why and how to maintain discipline and the issues and challenges thrown to teachers and university administration when it is transgressed and
violated.
The purpose is also to explore the pitfall when the focus on knowledge gathering shifts
to participation in activities that are non or counterproductive and carried out at the very cost of learning, deviating from the premise with which the student actually entered the temple of learning- the University in the first place.
The speakers will also discuss the university policies related to student discipline and whether it should be extended for off campus activities and to explore the need of reformative mechanism or process for such students against whom disciplinary action taken and to deliberate the need of a mechanism in universities for counselling of such errant students.
Vice Chancellor JMI Prof. Najma Akhtar will be the Chief Guest of the webinar and Chief
Proctor of the university Prof. Waseem Khan is Chairman of the webinar.
