Aligarh: Dr Aditi Sharma, a senior resident at the Department of Plastic Surgery, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) got the best poster award for her work on ‘A Curious Case of Marjolin’s Ulcer’ in the recently concluded 29th Annual Conference of the National Association of Burns – India of the Department of Plastic Surgery, KEM Hospital, Parel, Mumbai.
In the colloquium on the theme, ‘To see a change, be the change’, Dr Aditi gave a presentation of successful treatment carried out at JNMC of a 45-year-old man—who was advised amputation due to a non-healing ulcer on the right shoulder by doctors at a private hospital.
The poster highlights the treatment procedure and successful recovery of the patient after the post-operative course. A Limb-Salvage surgery to preserve the limb by removing the part of the bone involved with the tumor and some of the tissues that surround it was done at JNMC.
Dr Aditi had created the award winning poster under the supervision of Dr M Fahud Khurram (Associate Professor, Department of Plastic Surgery).
Department of Plastic Surgery faculty members, Dr Fahud and Dr Sarfaraz Ali also delivered talks on ‘Nutrition in Burns’ and ‘Neck Reconstruction’ respectively at the conference.
The award is a result of sheer hard work and comprehensive investigation by Dr Aditi and Dr Fahud, said Prof A H Khan (Chairman, Department of Plastic Surgery).
