Aligarh : Dr Syed Moied Ahmed, Professor at the Department of Anaesthesiology, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) provided hands-on-training to over 30 anaesthetists in emergency surgical airway and explained the difficult task of extubation management in the National Airway Conference, NAC 2022, held at Bangalore under All India Difficult Airway Association (AIDAA) guidelines.

He was directing the ‘Emergency Surgical Airway Workshop’, delivering the lecture on ‘Extubation of Critically ill patients’ and judging the oral paper presentation contest at the Conference.

Prof Moied updated the workshop participants with the latest developments in the emergency surgical airway management techniques for gaining access to the infraglottic airway and demonstrated the needle cricothyrotomy, percutaneous cricothyrotomy, surgical cricothyrotomy and surgical tracheostomy.

He pressed for the necessary training of anaesthesiologists on a regular basis in the latest advances of Emergency Surgical Airway to overcome crises in critical situations.

“It is necessary to re-evaluate competencies in the emergent surgical airway skills as anesthesia providers can face challenging scenarios with patients who cannot be intubated and ventilated. In such cases, the emergency surgical airway management techniques and surgical airway procedures are recommended as the final life-saving treatments”, he emphasised.

Meanwhile, Prof Moied was also elected as the AIDAA Vice President in the conference and was felicitated for delivering the ‘NITTE Oration’ on ‘The Airway Management – My Journey’ in 2021.
