JNMC Prof speaks at ‘World Heart Day’ observations in Lucknow
Aligarh : Prof M U Rabbani, Chairman, Department of Cardiology, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) and President, Cardiological Society of India, U P Chapter, said that healty dietary habits and active life style can affectively prevent heart diseases.
He was speaking at the ‘World Heart Day’ observance of the Cardiological Society of India, UP Chapter in Lucknow where Mr Brijesh Pathak (Deputy Chief Minister, Uttar Pradesh) was the Chief Guest and Mr Ajeet Mahapatra and Mr Jitendra Pratap Singh were the other guests.
“Heart diseases can be prevented before breakthrough treatments by simply following healthy habits such as engaging in physical activities, taking adequate sleep and following heart-healthy diets”, said Prof Rabbani.
He stressed that tobacco and alcohol consumption are the major reasons for cardiovascular problems.
“Working on the computer for hours, eating junk foods and sleeping late at night are very common phenomena nowadays. Lack of physical activity also adds to an already bad lifestyle. All of these conditions lead to a situation where people develop high blood pressure, high blood glucose, overweight and obesity which in turn triggers cardiovascular diseases,” Prof Rabbani alarmed.
He emphasised: “The ‘World Heart Day’ observations are aimed at informing people about cardiovascular diseases and inspire action to encourage heart-healthy living. Since, heart problems are leading to 45 lack yearly deaths in India alone, it is imperative that people start taking the necessary steps to prevent cardiovascular diseases”.
On the occasion Prof Rabbani also extended gratitude to the UP Deputy Chief Minister and other guests and presented them mementoes.
Mr Brijesh Pathak advised people to follow Indian culture by doing Yoga and other physical exercises regularly after waking up early in the day to reduce risks of heart diseases.
He also stressed on increasing medical awareness on prevention of cardiovascular problems.
Dr Sharad Gupta (Secretary, Cardiological Society of India, UP) and Dr Gaurav Chowdhary spoke on the need for living healthily.
