JNMCH Hosts CME on Antimicrobial Resistance and Pharmacovigilance

Aligarh : The Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR) Monitoring Centre at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital (JNMCH), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), organized a Continuing Medical Education (CME) session on “Antimicrobial Resistance: A Pharmaco-vigilance Approach” on November 19, as part of World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week (WAAW 2024). Conducted under the Pharma-covigilance Programme of India (PvPI), the event was supported by the Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, and catered to 93 nursing staff participants.

Chief Guest Prof. Veena Maheshwari, Dean, Faculty of Medicine, emphasized the need for proactive ADR reporting of all pharmaceutical reactions.Prof. Syed Ziaur Rahman, AMC Coordinator, inaugurated the session by endorsing the important role of nursing staff in ADR monitoring under the national Pharmacovigilance Programme.

The scientific session featured Prof. Fatima Khan, Convener of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Committee, who discussed the significance of stewardship programs at JNMC. Prof. Rahman highlighted AMC’s contributions through illustrative ADR cases. Mr. Gufran Ali, Pharmacovigilance Associate, trained participants in ADR reporting forms.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Hooma Ruhi, Assistant Nursing Superintendent, and was coordinated by Dr. Riya Sharma, Junior Resident, Department of Pharmacology.
