K.J. Somaiya College of Science & Commerce celebrates ‘Health Utsav 2022-23’

Mumbai : ‘Health Utsav 2022-23’, organized by the Department of Biochemistry – K.J. Somaiya College of Science and Commerce, was held from 12th – 14th December at the college’s campus in Vidyavihar, Mumbai. The event was hosted in collaboration with the Department of Biochemistry – SVKM’s Mithibai College and The Somaiya School.

 

The purpose of ‘Health Utsav 22-23’ was to acknowledge the fruitful initiative by the Government of India – ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’, to commemorate India’s 75th year of independence and encouraging the youth of the country to come forward and consume the true spirit of our democracy. The aim of the carnival was to promote health and nutritional awareness among the masses via building strong communicative interactions amongst school/college students and the common public.

 

The 3-day carnival hosted the following events – a Health Fest held on 12th December, which had a lot of fun activities like a poster competition, a mock ‘health’ court, a treasure hunt, a bio-Pictionary game, and a ‘Nutritional Bawarchi’ event which spoke about healthy recipes. The second event was a Health & Nutrition Expo, with the theme being, ‘We are what we eat – Let the food be your medicine’. The expo revolved around the topics of Health, Food science, Nutrition & Dietetics and its purpose was to increase general awareness about healthy food habits. Swastya Mahotsav, which included seminars on topics like ‘Stress/Distress/Destress’ and ‘Career Prospects of Healthcare Management’, a panel discussion on health & fitness, and a workshop on stress management. All the participants and winners received certificates and prizes.

 

Dr Samidha M Pawaskar, Head of the Department of Biochemistry, K J Somaiya College of Science & Commerce, says, “The carnival did complete justice to the wonderful initiative by the Government of India, by promoting how vital it is for the common public to be aware of health and nutritional aspects. I am extremely delighted by the fact that students from so many schools and colleges came together to make this event such a success.”

 

Dr Pradnya Prabhu, Principal, K J Somaiya College of Science and Commerce, says, “This carnival was certainly an unforgettable experience for everyone who was a part of it. Witnessing the enthusiasm amongst the students made me extremely happy and also proud. This Health Utsav was a kind of initiative that would definitely prove to be beneficial for our students in their overall personality development.”

 

Dr Nupur Meherotra, Department of Biochemistry, SVKM’s Mithibai College, says, “we are happy to collaborate with the Department of Biochemistry, K.J. Somaiya College of Science & Commerce and the further events of Health Utsav, will be conducted in Mithibai college in the month of January/February 2023.”

 

Mrs Parveen Shaikh Principal, The Somaiya School, says, “I am exhilarated to see the high energy with which Biochemistry department staff and students have worked for the event and wanted my school children to get associated with the flow, for such a great experiential learning experience. ”
