Karate and Kho-Kho dominated Day 9 of the SFA Championships in Dehradun

Dehradun : Day 9 of the SFA Championships in Dehradun brought a wave of excitement and fierce competition featuring thrilling matches in Karate, Kho Kho, Basketball, Football, and Badminton. A group of 20 talented young girls hailing from the small town of Uttarkashi in Uttarakhand, from Avashya Balika Vidyalaya Kasturba Gandhi, showcased an inspiring journey with their participation in the SFA Championships. Against all odds, coach Vishan Chettri, a resident of Dehradun and a true believer in the power of nurturing young talent, has been diligently discovering and motivating promising athletes every year. With unwavering dedication, he has paved the way for these young girls to showcase their potential on a larger platform. SFA Championships has opened doors to endless possibilities and dreams for these young girls.

Manisha Panwar, who came from Uttarkashi to participate in Karate at SFA Championships said, “I have been learning Karate for the past 5 years and I really enjoy it. We have come here at SFA Championships even while our exams are going on and I wish that we get more training in Karate”.

Dehradun indoor mats witnessed the commencement of Karate competitions at the Parade Ground and Kho Kho at Pavilion Ground. These age-old sports, deeply rooted in Indian culture, put the spotlight on school athletes, who displayed their skills, discipline, and determination. In Girls U-17 Kata, Rakhi Singh clinched gold, Anshika Thapa won silver while Dixit and Ananya Rawat (both) won bronze. Meanwhile, in the Boys U-11 Kata, Harshit Ranga picked number one position on the podium, Karmanveer Singh Gill took second position, Kartikey Singh Negi and Samarth Goswami (both) on third positions.

The Kho Kho competitions saw a strong participation from female athletes, with 12 teams competing in one day, in the U-18 category and 9 teams in the U-14 category. The matches were filled with energy and enthusiasm as the young players showcased their agility, strategic thinking, and teamwork. The Parade Ground witnessed some intense Basketball matches, where 30 teams competed in one day, displaying their exceptional skills, teamwork, and unwavering determination to become the future Champions. The Pavilion Ground was abuzz with action as the U-14 boys Football matches unfolded. Amidst this excitement, the Volleyball tournament for the male team reached its peak, with a total of 23 matches played, in one day.

The battle for supremacy is reaching its climax, and competition remains fierce. As the day ended, Maharana Pratap Sports College continued to lead with an impressive 360 points tally, followed by Acharyakulam and Social Baluni Public School on second and third positions, respectively. As the championships progress, Day 10 is set to witness the commencement of Table Tennis competition at Parade Ground, featuring Boys U-10 to U-17 and Girls U-10 to U-17 categories.

With each passing day, the SFA Championships are turning out to be a celebration of passion, dedication, and the unfaltering spirit of young athletes. These championships have ignited the dreams of future sporting stars and have provided a platform for youth to explore and showcase their talents.
