Karlsruhe Institute of Technology: KIT and the state support Karlsruhe Schlosslichtspiele

“As a research university, KIT is firmly rooted in the city and region of Karlsruhe, but also in society,” says the President of KIT, Professor Holger Hanselka. “That is why we are delighted to be able to contribute to the Karlsruhe Schlosslichtspiele and the parallel Light Festival. The message of our video installation is very current: In an increasingly complex world with increasingly scarce resources, we can only secure the future, locally and globally, together. “

“We are happy to support the idea of integrating the KIT with its library building into the Schlosslichtspiele”, says Ursula Orth, head of the Karlsruhe office of the Baden-Württemberg State Office for Assets and Construction and as such representative of the state’s owners. “In difficult times, we help to straighten out Karlsruhe’s most popular cultural event and, in addition to the castle, to develop other buildings in the state in the Karlsruhe city center as temporary movie theaters. Our office has been involved in the overall coordination of the Schlosslichtspiele from the very beginning, and we are delighted with this year’s new highlights. “

Food for thought from orbit

Alexander Gerst’s greeting message can be seen on seven by four meters on the north facade of the KIT library (not far from Durlacher Tor and Adenauerring) between August 18 and September 17 every day. The ESA astronaut, who studied geophysics at KIT, recorded it in a literally weightless state on board the International Space Station ISS during the “Horizons” mission in 2018.

A projection mapping at the castle and at the KIT library is in the mood for another KIT initiative at the interface between science and society: From October 5 to 10, the KIT Science Week will take place in Karlsruhe and via stream Artificial intelligence and the technologies and applications derived from it rotates. The format combines a scientific conference with a dialogue with citizens. The extent to which AI is already permeating life and work is underlined by a show at the Karlsruhe Schlosslichtspiele 2021: In the work “Ganesis” by the Berlin artist Spiegelball, artificial intelligence becomes a creative authority. In addition, a trailer at the KIT library advertises the TRIANGEL Open Space, the new KIT event and meeting room on Kronenplatz.
