KCL Professor listed among top 100 global contributors to social work journal scholarship

Jill Manthorpe, Professor of Social Work at King’s College London, has been identified as one of the most impactful global contributors to social work journal scholarship. In a recently published paper in Research on Social Work Practice, Prof Manthorpe was ranked at number 23 in the social work field.

Prof Manthorpe is Director of the NIHR Policy Research Unit in Health and Social Care Workforce, within the Policy Institute in the Faculty of Social Science & Public Policy at King’s College London.

The authors of the recent paper conducted secondary analysis of a publicly available database of the world’s leading scientists and after extracting all scholars in the social work category, they rank ordered them according to a composite measure of scholarly impact that controls for self-citations and author order. They argue that the results of their analysis illustrate social work’s presence as a global profession, with seven different nations represented in the list of 100 – five of these being among the top 10 (US, Canada, Australia, Great Britain, and Israel).

Professor Manthorpe, who the analysis showed to be among the top 100,000 scientists across all fields, was made CBE in the final Birthday Honours List of the late Queen for services to social work and social care research.
