KCMGDC Poonch hosts Dr Bagh Hussain Mayer Memorial Extension Lecture
POONCH : An extension lecture on the topic, “Plant Viruses And Allied Microbes “ for the students of Semester I, besides a webinar was organized by KCM Government Degree College Poonch here in the memory of Prof Dr. Bagh Hussain Mayer, former HOD Botany of KCM GDC Poonch.
The event was held under the overall supervision of Principal of the college Prof M H Shah. Dr. Ashiq Malik of Govt PG College Rajouri gave the expert talk on the occasion. He dealt in detail on topics like introduction and origin to the beginning of virology, classification, and genome of human viruses, types of viral genomes, viroids, virusoids, prions, retrotransposons, Coronavirus, TMV, symptomology of viruses, and ended his talk by highlighting transmission and control measures for their spread.
In the webinar series, memorable speeches were given by Dr. Farooq Ahmed HOD Zoology, Dr. Harvinder Kour Senior Asstt Prof from GGM Science College Jammu, former students of late Dr. Bagh Hussain -Mr. Imran Shakir and Nimranjeet Kour.
All the speakers paid their respects to former HOD Dr. Bagh Hussain who passed away at his place on 31 December 2021. On the said occasion, speakers threw light upon his role as a diligent teacher and head of the department. They also spoke at length about his contribution as coordinator of IGNOU. It was universally acknowledged and mentioned that his demise is an irreparable loss not only for the immediate family but for the entire college fraternity, students, and everyone who had the privilege of having known the illustrious son of the soil.
The program was conducted by Dr. Mahroof Khan organizing Secretary whereas HOD Botany Dr. Rani Mughal presented the formal welcome address. She also expressed her desire to name the existing botanical society of KCM GDC Poonch after Dr. Bagh Hussain Mayer so that the generations to come may remember the contributions made by the deceased professor. The program ended with a heart-touching speech of Arshad Hussain, a net qualified research scholar and the illustrious son of Dr. Bagh Hussain Mayer.
