KIIT Gurgaon organizes a 6th international workshop on spoken language technologies for under resourced language

Gurugram : KIIT college of engineering Gurgaon organizes a 6th international workshop on spoken language technologies for under resourced language . The delegates from 22 countries participated in this conference which included India ,Japan ,Taiwan ,South Africa ,Malaysia and Russia .Last year the conference was organized in Indonesia. The conference chief guest was the Director General of the Department of Electronics and Information Technology STQC Umesh Kumar Nandwani and Professor Al Amin Yusuf of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

Al -Ameen Yusuf a professor of the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) said that in internet hindi language content is less than one percent which is mostly spoken in india and it is very necessary to have regional language content in internet like japan and china do.

Speaking on this occassion Director General of STQC Electronics and information Technology ,Umesh Kumar Nandwani said that with the help of Digitlal India Program various indian langauages are being researched and government is in the process of developing regional languages

Director General of KIIT College of Engineering Shyam Sundar Agarwal said that unless the digital content is unavailable in regional language ,language development is difficult . He said that there are more than 6000 languages in the world and only few are well represented digitally .India alone, with a country of 780 spoken languages and 86 different scripts that reflect its incredible diversity, has lost around 250 languages in the last 50 years and many more are at the verge of getting extinct.

A major focus of this workshop is on Indo-European and Sino-Tibetan languages, but study on other under resourced languages are also encouraged.
