Bhubaneswar: KiiT International School responsibly celebrated “World Environment Day” on 5th June by launching a one-of-its-kind Green Campus Program. This year’s theme was “Ecosystem restoration” which is set in alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The day was celebrated to raise awareness of the importance of a sustainable ecosystem for the future. On this occasion, an insightful webinar was organized by the school under the leadership of Hon’ble founder, Prof. Achyuta Samanta and Chairperson, Dr. Mona Lisa Bal. With a line-up of eminent speakers in the webinar, Dr. VP Upadhyay (Advisor (Rtd.) MoEF & CC Government of India), Mr. Aditya Pundir (South Asia The Climate Reality Project India), Mr. Prafulla Dhal (General Manager and State Head- Sparsh Social Foundation), and Ms. Sheetal Antil (Program Manager, The Climate Reality Project India), the symposium addressed topics such as climate change and restoration of biodiversity in the state as well as the nation.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Mona Lisa Bal, Chairperson, KiiT International School said, “Preserving nature is the steppingstone to counter against climate change. At KiiT International School we believe that the very genesis of a sustainable future must be sowed early in life. So besides educating students and the future of our country about the prerogatives of life, nature becomes an integral part of our pedagogy for conscientious choices we make to make our lives better. Protection and restoration of our ecosystem are imperative to ensure a safe and healthy life. With healthy ecosystems, we can ensure sustainable livelihoods, fight climate change, and stop the subside of biodiversity. The idea of the Green Campus program is to build a generation of environment-conscious warriors who would protect and conserve the biodiversity. This will ensure lifelong learning for the young minds and implant sustainable practices. We all should join hands and take care of the environment today to promise ourselves, a happier tomorrow.”
The World Environment Day program started with a welcome address by the KiiT International School, followed by a string of engaging session where each speaker emphasized the importance of the preservation and conservation of the environment, and it inspired the future generations to do their best to restore the ecosystem. The keynote address of the event was by Dr. V.P.Upadhyay, Adviser(Rtd), MoEF & CC, Govt of India. This was followed by a session on the topic “Climate Change and Role of Ecosystem Restoration” by Mr. Aditya Pundir, Director South Asia, The Climate Reality Project India. Prof. Prafulla Dhal, General Manager & State Head Sparsh Social Foundation (SSF) delivered a speech on the topic, “Case of Climate Change and ecosystem restoration in Odisha”. The highlight of the occasion was the launch of the Green Campus Program and the event ended with a Q/A session by the participants.
