King’s College London joins London Higher today
London Higher represents a diverse range of higher education institutions in London, from small, specialist conservatoires and research institutes to large, multi-faculty universities.
London has been our home for nearly 200 years and during that time we are proud to have provided life-changing educational opportunities within the capital and worked in partnership with our local communities, businesses and charities on projects to support the wellbeing and growth of our city and those who live here.
Professor Shitij Kapur, President & Principal, King’s College London
The membership of King’s draws together all of London’s large, research-intensive universities and strengthens the organisation’s ability to speak confidently for the full diversity of higher education in the capital.
King’s is proud to be a civic university at the heart of London. We are delighted to be joining London Higher to help further strengthen the collective voice of higher education in the capital and deliver on our shared vision for the sector through our education, research and service to society.
Professor ‘Funmi Olonisakin, Vice President (International, Engagement & Service)
London’s universities and higher education colleges are powerful engines of economic growth, collectively educating over 507,000 students, employing over 223,000 people across all sectors of the UK economy and generating over £12bn in GDP.
The addition of King’s College London to our ever-closer ‘London HE’ community enables us to speak with one voice for the collective power of London’s university sector and times perfectly with the launch of our new business strategy and priorities later this month to support our mission to make the London higher education sector the best it can be.
Dr Diana Beech, Chief Executive Officer, London Higher
Dr Diana Beech added “As the clear ‘go to’ organisation for higher education in the capital, we look forward to working with policymakers across London, Whitehall and beyond to ensure the London voice is heard and understood in all relevant debates and discussions.”
London Higher advocates for and on behalf of London’s higher education sector, acting as a convenor, hosting collaborative networks to identify new initiatives to solve common challenges; as a communicator, being a collective voice for our members and promoting London as a world-class study and research destination; and as a campaigner, responding to policy concerns and raising awareness of policy implications across our diverse membership.
