King’s College London Launches New Centre for Education Development & Research to Innovate Teaching Practices

CEDAR will develop and celebrate the significant educational activities at IoPPN, and provide support for the professional development and career trajectory of academic staff.

CEDAR, which has been in development since 2019, will serve as a visible home for education at IoPPN. At its core, the centre will recognise innovation and best practices in education (including developing communities of practice), and promote collaborative educational based-research across the entirety of the IoPPN.

The centre will also help academic staff, especially those with significant teaching responsibilities or those early in their careers, to learn from others, share their experiences, and gain insights into educational activities within IoPPN and beyond.

IoPPN was founded on the basis of providing excellence in clinical care, research and education. CEDAR is welcome and transformative milestone for the faculty, which will increase the visibility and the coordination of best practice when it comes to education at IoPPN.

The launch event, which took place on 16 September, set out CEDAR’s development and vision and the importance of IoPPN as a provider of world-leading education.

Speakers at the event included IoPPN Executive Dean Professor Matthew Hotopf, IoPPN Dean of Education Professor Juliet Foster, and Centre Manager Andrea Williams. Some of the innovative work CEDAR will offer was outlined, and several case studies were showcased providing insights into innovative educational practices at IoPPN. The event concluded with a networking session.
