KL Deemed to be University’s Scholar Clinched A&WMA Student of the Year Award
Hyderabad: A full-time PhD scholar, Kashif Tanzil of KL Deemed to be University, has been honoured as one of the Air & Waste Management Association’s 2023 Student Award Winners. He is working under the guidance of Dr. Anu Mary Ealias, Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering of KL Deemed to be University. This recognition is bestowed upon outstanding students dedicated to pursuing courses and research in air quality, waste management, environmental management/policy/law, and sustainability.
As a testament to Kashif’s achievements, an award of $1,500 (Rs. 122,760/-) has been credited to the research and development account of KL Deemed to be University through Forex. He was granted a gratis one-year student membership to encourage his participation in these activities. His accomplishment will be recognized at the 116th Annual Conference & Exhibition, in Orlando, Florida at the Student Awards Ceremony and Reception in the month of June this year.

Kashif Tanzil joined KL Deemed to be University as a full-time scholar in April 2022, specializing in Environmental Engineering Research within the Civil Engineering Department at the Vijayawada Campus. Before joining the department, he completed his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and his master’s in environmental engineering. He has held different roles in various reputable organisations, including Assistant Professor in engineering colleges, Site Engineer, Billing Engineer, and Environmental Engineer. He has been awarded the AWMA (Air & Waste Management Association) for the year 2023 based on his proposal to study the behaviour of microplastics, along with emerging contaminants, on soil health.
Established in 1907, the Air & Waste Management Association (A&WMA) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan professional entity. It catalyzes knowledge advancement and expertise enrichment by offering a neutral platform for exchanging information, professional growth, networking prospects, public education, and outreach. The Air & Waste Management Association (A&WMA) annually acknowledges exceptional students dedicated to air quality, waste management, environmental management/policy/law, and sustainability. Recognition includes scholarships, thesis/dissertation awards, and distinctions for outstanding student papers and posters at the Association’s Annual Conference & Exhibition. Notably, winners will be showcased in the Association’s EM magazine.
KL Civil Engineering department proactively engage students to gain knowledge on varied aspects including spans Testing, Planning, Design, Construction, and Management. It provides courses tailored for graduates in civil engineering and postgraduates in Structural Engineering, Construction Technology and Management, and Geotechnical Engineering. Additionally, there’s a Ph.D. program for those inclined towards research in civil engineering. Flexible syllabi are offered for postgraduate students, allowing specialization in areas such as Structural Engineering, Geoinformatics, and Construction Technology and Management.
